I think it is safe to assume that all of us want a better world to live in. But this thing will not just happen. Efforts must be put in this ‘project’. One of the most effective efforts is education. I believe that through education we can solve all the problems this world has. I know sound a bit utopic, but I really believe this.
When I say that education can change the world for the better, I don’t mean just schools. I include all kinds of education. The one you get from school, the one you get from your parents, as well as other forms of education.
First on my list is the education one gets from home so be sure you pass a rental background check if you want a place in the dorm. There is a saying I heard in a movie (I think) that says something like that: ‘The world will become a better place if people will raise their babies right’. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t accuse parents of anything, but sometimes I wish they would educate their children more world oriented. And there is no need for big gestures. But little from little a person will improve at least the world around him/her. Start small. Teach your child not to litter. Teach him how to be compassionate. Give him the strength to face this world with his head held high. Teach him anything that would make the world better just because he exists.
Secondly, the education one gets from schooling. I wish that education would be free for everyone, not just for the rich privileged. For a low-class family, a child in college is hell (if not impossible). You don’t know where from the next genius will emerge. Einstein, Tesla, Faraday. They all were poor. But they changed the scientific world. This why education should be free.
I mostly speak of science because I believe this is the only education that really matters. Doctors, researchers, biologists, engineers, and much other possible life altering jobs should be a priority. Don’t get me wrong, I respect everyone’s decision of choosing whatever profession they may have, but I strongly believe that some domains are more important than others.
I think that school doesn’t just educate you in the matter of books. It also teaches social skills, which are very important. It’s the same with college. They are some kind of rite of passage that will initiate you into adulthood.
Also, I have to mention that a college degree will make a big difference for your paycheck. You are more likely to get a good paying job if you have a degree in some domain. However, do not lie about your educational history. Your employer will conduct a background check on you and you will get caught. An employment background check is a must nowadays.
As you can see, and here are just a few reasons, education has the ability to make a difference in this upside-down world. All you have to do is strive for greatness and do your best to reach for the stars. Anything else is just background noise.
